FAQ & help.
Short answers to the questions everyone asks. For the full setup walkthrough, see the setup guide.
What is Smacros?
Smacros is a food log you keep by talking to Claude. Describe what you ate in your own words, photos welcome, and Claude records it. This dashboard shows where your day stands against your targets, updated the moment something is logged.
How do I log a meal?
Open Claude and say what you ate. "Grilled chicken salad and an iced latte" is enough, and Claude will ask if it needs more. The Log a meal button on the dashboard opens a chat with the prompt already typed.
Ate a few things? Say them all in one message, like “yogurt bowl, pretzels mid-morning, and a glass of milk”, and they go in together. Each one is still its own entry, so you can correct or repeat any of them on its own later.
Three things make the estimates better: snap the plate photo before you dig in, add a word about portion size, and for packaged food show the nutrition panel once. It's remembered after that.
Do I need a new chat for every meal?
No, one chat a day is plenty. After your first meal, keep talking in the same chat: "add lunch: …". Tomorrow, start fresh; the Log a meal button always opens a new chat carrying today's date.
Old meal chats are disposable. Your record lives in Smacros, not in the chat, so deleting them loses nothing. To clear a pile at once, open your chat history on claude.ai in a browser, select the ones you want gone, and delete.
I can't sign in, or it says I have no account
Sign in with the Google account your invite was sent to. Google picks whichever account your browser or phone already had ready, which is often a different one. If you see That account isn't registered with Smacros, sign out of Google, then sign back in with the right account.
Smacros uses Google and nothing else, so there's no Smacros password to make or lose. If Google asks for a code or a second step, that's Google checking it's you on its own account; Smacros never sees it and never asks you for one.
Why does Claude ask me to sign in with Google a second time?
Adding the Smacros connector opens our authorization page, and we use Google to check who you are, so Claude shows you a Google sign-in again. It's the same account and the same record. You're granting Claude access to your food log, not creating a second Smacros account.
Why does Claude keep asking for permission?
By default Claude checks with you before using a connector's tools. That's the "Allow?" pop-up before it logs a meal or reads your day. You can switch it off for Smacros: on claude.ai go to Settings → Customize → Connectors → Smacros → Tool permissions, and set both groups to Always allow. That's safe here: the tools only read and write your own food record, and anything they write can be corrected later.
The pop-ups can come back on their own. When Smacros gains new abilities the new tools start out on "needs approval" again, and the Claude desktop app is known to forget the setting after some updates. Nothing's wrong. Set them to Always allow again.
What does "marking my day complete" mean?
At the end of the day, you tell Smacros how it went: everything's in, some meals missing, or nothing logged. "Complete" means you've finished accounting for the day, not that every meal made it in.
Without your word, Smacros can't tell a light day from a day you stopped logging at lunch. Marking a day complete tells Smacros which days to trust. Days with everything in are the ones it learns from to work out how much energy you burn in a day, and each one sharpens that estimate. Seven honest days tell Smacros more than thirty half-logged ones.
Make it the last thing you do each day. It takes one tap in the dashboard or a sentence to Claude, and it's the moment you remember the snack you never logged.
Only you can mark a day complete. Claude and the reminders never do it for you, whatever the numbers look like.
Marking a day complete doesn't lock it. Remember a late snack afterwards and you can still add it; the day is simply marked complete again, carrying your word on the change.
Why does Smacros only count days with everything in?
So the estimate of how much energy you burn stays right. A day with a missed meal looks like you ate less than you did, so Smacros would decide you burn less than you do, and any target built on that would come out too low.
A day you mark "Everything's in" is one you've said is whole, so it can be trusted in that comparison. Days with some meals missing still show in your history and in Trends. They just stay out of the estimate. A few honest days tell Smacros more than many half-logged ones.
Weigh-ins are the other half. Over a couple of weeks your weight trend shows how far you ate above or below what you burned, and your "Everything's in" days give the eating side of that sum. Together they sharpen the estimate.
Why does my dashboard open on yesterday?
Yesterday isn't marked complete yet. Days you mark complete are the ones Smacros learns from, so the dashboard opens there first, while you still remember the day.
To open on Today every morning, mark each day complete after your last meal. Once that's a habit, the reminder never shows.
If you'd rather not track every day in full, turn off Mark yesterday complete under Reminders in Settings, and the dashboard always opens on Today.
What are the nightly reminders?
If today is still open by evening, a reminder can arrive on your phone with how much is logged and a nudge to mark the day complete or add what's missing. Turn it on or off in the dashboard menu (⋯ → Nightly reminder).
Reminders reach an iPhone once you've added the dashboard to your Home Screen (see "How do I add Smacros to my Home Screen?" below). Other browsers can't receive them yet, and the menu row says so rather than leaving you looking for a switch. Without a phone reminder, the same nudge waits on the dashboard the next time you open it.
How do I add Smacros to my Home Screen?
Open your dashboard in Safari, then:
On iOS 27: tap the button at the left of the address bar, then Share, then View More, then Add to Home Screen.
On iOS 26: tap ••• at the right of the address bar, then Share, then scroll down to Add to Home Screen.
On iOS 18 and earlier: tap Share (the square with the arrow) in the toolbar, then Add to Home Screen.
Leave Open as Web App on and tap Add. Smacros then opens from your Home Screen like an app, and nightly reminders can reach you. Not sure which iOS you have? Settings → General → About shows it.
What happens to my data?
Only you can read your record, and Claude when you ask it to. Smacros opens an individual record only to fix a problem you reported or to investigate a fault. Nothing is shared with other users or used for ads. To take everything out or delete it, use the Account page in the dashboard menu.
Can I invite someone?
Yes. Send your friend to smacros.app, where anyone can ask for an invite. Smacros is invite-only while it's small.
Something's broken, or I'm confused
Email support@smacros.app and say what happened. You can also just ask Claude, which can read your record and usually explain what's going on.
